My heritage place
Tyrconnell gold mine, part of the Hodgkinson goldfield in far north Queensland, was once home to 10,000 gold miners and their families. Ten people live in the area near Dimbulah now. Home for five of them - Andy Bell, Cate Harley and their three young boys - is a 1930s timber-and-tin mine office connected by a breezeway to the former singlemen’s quarters.

Andrew is a Brisbane-based structural engineer.
For 20 years, has worked with heritage buildings from an engineering perspective. He has consulted on projects relating to heritage-listed places such as the Breakfast Creek Hotel, Brisbane RNA Showgrounds and the Pyrmont Bridge in Sydney, and was involved with heritage assessments for Brisbane's North-South Bypass Tunnel.
Andrew chairs the Queensland Division of the Heritage Committee of Engineers Australia.
