Collinsville Cemetery, Collinsville (gazetted 1927)
As the burial place of the seven miners killed on 13 October 1954 in one of Queensland’s worst mining accidents, the cemetery has a special association for mining industry workers throughout the state. The tragedy brought the issue of mine safety to public attention and prompted legislated change to mine safety practices. Together with other major mining accidents, the Collinsville accident is mentioned frequently in memorial ceremonies commemorating accidental deaths in the coal mining industry.
