Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, 28 Tomewin Street, Currumbin (established 1947)
An iconic Queensland tourist destination established by Alex Griffith in 1947 as the Currumbin Bird Sanctuary, and important in demonstrating the early development of nature-based tourism in Queensland, the sanctuary evolved from a site of local interest and the public spectacle of lorikeet feeding to an internationally recognised nature based tourism attraction. The place has a special association with its founder, Alex Griffith who gifted the place to the National Trust of Queensland in 1976.
