Dawson Valley Colliery (former), Baralaba (1921–1969)
One of the first coal mines in the Bowen Basin (Queensland's largest and most productive coal field), important in demonstrating the development of underground coal mining in Queensland. It retains an extensive industrial landscape of abandoned buildings, structures, machinery and shafts, and is important in illustrating in scale and type, living conditions and work practices and technology in underground coal mining prior to the introduction of large-scale open cut mining during the 1960s.
