Heritage strategy
Queensland’s first heritage strategy was launched on 22 October 2009 by the state minister responsible for heritage, Kate Jones.
It’s a significant ten-year plan that has been years in the making – a review of how Queensland managed heritage places commenced in 2004.
The Queensland Heritage Council welcomes this plan. It provides a framework against which we can balance our responsibilities of conserving what’s culturally valuable without hindering Queensland’s development.
Five key areas have been identified in the Queensland Heritage Strategy: a ten-year plan.
- Communicating values – improving the way Queenslanders understand and value their cultural heritage
- Strengthening policy – embedding cultural heritage in mainstream policy and planning
- Maximising sustainable investment – strengthening Queensland’s investment in managing and conserving its cultural heritage
- Building partnerships – leading and partnering with government, community and industry to conserve Queensland’s cultural heritage
- Developing capacity – building the capacity of government, community and industry to conserve Queensland’s cultural heritage.
