Queenslanders nominate special places for recognition
The Queensland Heritage Council has received an overwhelming response to its Our Shared Heritage project, with 85 ‘special’ places located throughout the state nominated for recognition by community members.
Launched in October 2009, the Our Shared Heritage initiative invited the community to suggest places they would like to see entered in the Queensland Heritage Register for future generations to enjoy.
The project received an overwhelming response with community members nominating 85 ‘special’ places throughout the state for recognition, of which:
- Thirteen places were already listed in the Queensland Heritage Register.
- Five places have since been entered in the Heritage Register—Ninney Rise and John Busset Memorial at Bingle Bay; Banfield Memorial Reserve and Grave on Dunk Island; St David’s Anglican Church and Raintrees in Mossman; the Innisfail Water Tower; and the Toowoomba Trades Hall.
- Thirteen places have been shortlisted for assessment and possible recommendation for entry into the Register.
- The remaining 56 places are awaiting further investigations.
